BIRDS AND BUTTERFLYS ~~ This full day tour is dedicated to bird and butterfly enthusiasts. The tour begins early morning as a bilingual guide meets participants at established pick-up points in San José. Driving to the Province of Alajuela we will first visit the animal park of Zoo Ave in La Garita. Zoo Ave is dedicated to preserving the rich, natural history of Costa Rica through breeding, rehabilitation and release of native fauna. In a natural setting, guests will see and learn not only about birds, but monkeys, sloths, crocodiles and much more. The zoo also serves as a beautiful botanical garden with many varieties of palms, heleconias, orchids and gingers on the lush, spacious grounds.

The next stop will be a delicious typical lunch at one of La Garitas' many fine restaurants. Crossing through the lovely residential area of La Garita, the tour will then proceed to the agricultural town of La Guacima, home to The Butterfly Farm. In an enclosed tropical garden filled with hundreds of butterflies, experienced guides proceed to discuss butterflies and their natural history, the farm's operations. On export days guests are invited to see the sorting and packing of thousands of butterfly chrysalides as they are prepared for shipment. Birds and Butterflies begins at 8:00 a.m.
