Drive to Irazú Volcano to see this magnificent sleeping giant. Ride a technical downhill past lush primary forest to Turrialba Volcano, at three hours away one of the least visited parks. The ride ends in the town of Turrialba, Costa Rica's whitewater rafting hub.
Irazu Volcano last erupted shortly after late President Kennedy's visit to Costa Rica in the early 60s...it is not really dormant yet.
Climb or drive to the top of Irazu to view its magnificent crater and catch a glimpse of both oceans (cloud cover permitting!). Then ride downhill on pavement for a couple of miles before turning offroad for a moderate ride on gravel roads to the foothills of Turrialba Volcano. After a brief stop at a local eatery, we either take the challenging climb to the top of Turrialba Volcano (most people hike it...and only the best cyclists can climb it all the way) or continue our ride past working farms to the town of Santa Cruz and then downhill to Turrialba, Costa Rica's whitewater mecca.
An alternative route, only for the best cyclists, follow's a more technical descent from Turrialba Volcano to Turrialba.
After resting and eating in Turrialba we board our van for the ride back to San Jose.
Ask us about combining with rafting as a multi-day adventure.
Duration: 7 a.m./5 p.m. Cost: $85 2 PAX MIN.
